CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (KFVS) – The grand opening for a new casino in southeast Missouri was held Friday afternoon, November 1.
The doors to the Century Casino and Hotel in Caruthersville are now officially open.
Lyle Randolph was hopeful the new casino and hotel will bring more visitors to the Bootheel.
“It’s a great kind of crossroads,” he said. “You have the bridge from Tennessee, so folks that are, that are traveling up and down Interstate 55 and then also coming in from Tennessee. Again, folks coming into the area, opportunity for them to come and, and visit southeast Missouri.”
A lot of people did come out to get their first look at the new facility.
While it‘s brand new, it‘s not Caruthersville’s first casino. The new facility is replacing the old casino that’s been on the river for nearly 30 years.
“We needed to update the facility, get it off the river. Again, here we can be a little more stable. We don’t have to worry about the highs and lows of the river that everybody kind of deals with here,” Randolph said.
After years of planning and construction, he is looking forward to Caruthersville cashing in.
“I think that‘s a fantastic thing for the area,” he said. “Again, bringing people into to Missouri and tax dollars and tourism. It’s all a great thing.”
A groundbreaking for the casino and hotel was held in December 2022.
